Fueling the Tech Boom with Natural Gas
As the world races to build the digital infrastructure of tomorrow, natural gas is rising to power the tech revolution from behind the scenes. From data centers driving the growth of artificial intelligence to advanced semiconductors, from crypto to cloud computing hubs enabling global connectivity, energy demand from the tech sector is soaring at unprecedented rates. While renewables are playing a more significant role in the energy mix, natural gas remains the backbone of reliable, scalable, and low-emission power that keeps these systems running 24/7. Its flexibility and efficiency make it the perfect bridge between today’s energy needs and tomorrow’s innovations.
In this edition of RBAC’s monthly newsletter you will see how natural gas is powering the future: We have a Quick Brief covering top stories in the market, a pair of podcasts featuring James Brooks and Cyrus Brooks, a look what is being called the “Golden Era” of natural gas, and an analysis of what happens if the European Union fully cuts off gas from Russia.

Quick Brief - U.S. Natural Gas Exports to Mexico Reach New Records.
Pipeline exports to Mexico averaged 7.5 bcf/d in May of this year which is the highest on record. Additionally, on an annual basis records are also being shattered as seen in the graph below.
Mexico has had a prosperous trade relationship for natural gas and is effectively reliant on the United States in a similar way to how Europe was reliant on Russia before the Ukraine war. However, while we are seeing these import records broken, the system is only at around half maximum capacity. Several factors limit U.S. natural gas exports to Mexico such as infrastructure constraints and limited storage capacity within the country. Mexico does have plans in progress to expand domestic pipeline networks to meet future demand as well as entering the LNG export market.
How will the natural gas trade relationship between these two countries continue to evolve and will we see continuous increases in gas flows to Mexico? You can answer that question with GPCM. Market simulation tools such as RBAC’s GPCM® Market Simulator for North American Gas and LNGâ„¢ allows user to adjust supply and demand variables and see how prices would be affected. GPCM enables market analysts to forecast future market conditions and run market scenarios based on their own unique assumptions. From Russia to the Rest: How Europe’s Russian Gas Ban Could Reshape Global Energy Trade
The European Union has indicated it may expedite the process of eliminating all purchases of energy from Russia by 2026, a year earlier than currently outlined in the REPowerEU roadmap. The goal of this roadmap is to stop all imports of Russian energy whether it is natural gas, oil, or uranium. For now the overall REPowerEU plan is still in the proposal stage but this brings up the question, where outside of Europe would the Russian gas flow to and how would Europe bridge the gap if it was ratified?
