Quick Brief - China's Annual Natural Gas Consumption Rose Across all Sectors in 2023

China is currently one of the market leaders in terms of demand for natural gas. Despite already possessing this crown, demand continues to increase with 2023 seeing increases in industrial, residential and commercial, electric power, and other sectors.

To meet this demand, China has been ramping up both domestic production as well as imports from pipelines and LNG.

Despite this rising production, China has seen the most growth in LNG imports of which the country became the largest importer in 2023, the second time it has held this title since 2021.

Asia will be a region to watch alongside other emerging markets as demand for natural gas and LNG continues to skyrocket.
