The New Year is here for Natural Gas and LNG
2025 has finally arrived! As we look forward to what the new year will bring and how the market will develop, let’s first look back on what took place over the course of the year. From many countries around the world investing billions into natural gas development to supply chain disruptions caused by issues in the Panama Canal and the Red Sea, 2024 had it all.
To celebrate the coming new year, we have selected some of the top articles and highlights from this past year in this newsletter and review in addition to our latest articles and media from this past December.
Quick Brief - Potential Gas Supply Crunch in Europe?
European energy markets are abuzz to begin the new year with potential supply crunches caused by the expiration of a pre-war agreement for Russian gas to be transported through Ukraine to Europe and Qatar potentially halting the shipment of LNG to EU members.
Over the course of the war between Russia and Ukraine, a prior agreement had been made to continue transporting gas from Russia through Ukraine to various destinations across Europe. However, as the conflict continues, Ukraine has decided to not renew this agreement. Ukraine has made it clear that this was the plan for months so the effects of this will likely remain muted. This loss of supply was expected to be replaced with increased imports from other sources such as the United States of America and Qatar, but a new complication in this plan could make securing gas difficult.
Qatar has long been an important supplier of LNG to Europe, providing 12 to 14% of Europe’s LNG needs in the three years since the war.
New regulations set forth by the EU that would potentially affect the transport for LNG from Qatar to Europe could result in Qatar stopping the shipment of future gas to the region. However, currently, long-term supply contracts would not be broken.

Natural Gas Price Predictions for 2025: A Bullish or Bearish Market?
“As we head into the 2024/25 winter season, the natural gas market appears to be staring down the barrel of yet another mild winter and loose Supply/Demand (SnD) balances. The El Niño of yesteryear is now replaced by a La Niña and although that could bode well for a more “normal” winter season, the current expectations aren’t playing out that way.”
